As President/CEO, Ms. Whiteside develops and maintains client relationships for the firm. She directs all engineering and planning projects acquired by the organization and oversees the development of innovative project ideas for community areas in blight.  Ms. Whiteside manages projects in the areas of civil engineering, aviation, public infrastructure, utilities and site development.  She is a trained civil engineer and is licensed in the State of Illinois. Her capabilities are in field engineering, erosion control inspection, resident engineering, construction contract administration, planning studies, design plan development and utility coordination.

Ms. Whiteside is active in national political endeavors and local philanthropic causes. She was a 2016 presidential campaign fellow and formerly served as Board Member of St. Martin de Porres House of Hope, a substance abuse recovery home for women and children, in the Woodlawn Community in Chicago. She currently serves as a member of the Nominating Committee for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago and hold memberships in City Club of Chicago and Women in Energy.  Ms. Whiteside holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. She is a member of Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago.

ITSE is a member of the national Vehicle to Infrastructure Deployment Coalition, and is currently reviewing the draft Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) V2I Deployment Guidance document and other deployment tools prior to public release.

Definition of Rating Guidelines

- Does the entry demonstrate the use of a new science or a break through in the general knowledge of engineering?
- Does the entry represent a unique application of new or existing technology, techniques, materials or equipment?

- Will the entry redefine current engineering thinking?
- Does the entry advance a positive public image of engineering excellence?

- Do the solutions identified produce secondary benefits of value to the community environment?
- Does the entrant's approach provide society with social, economic or sustainable development benefits?
- Does the entrant’s contribution to the project improve the health, safety or welfare of the public or affected environment?

- Did the entry successfully address very complex criteria or unique problems?
- Were extraordinary problems of site, location, hazardous conditions, project requirements, or similar elements present?
- Does the entry require the use of out-of-the-ordinary tech nology or ingenuity for achievement of project’s goals?

- Did the engineer or entrant successfully engage the client/ owner in the overall project development process?
- Is it an economical and cost effective solution?
- How did final cost relate to original budget estimate?
- How closely does the entrant's solution meet the total goals of the client/owner?
- Did the entrant meet the client's time schedule?


Each entry is reviewed by at least three judges who provide a score on their worksheet based on Rating Guidelines provided. The judges report their scores, discussing any positive aspects that might merit the project a Stellar Star or Premier Award. At this point, a process of elimination usually occurs.
